Hey all, simple question, am I able to change the size of individual components? I saw a forum post a while ago saying there's no easy way to do this but since that was 5 years ago, was wondering if it's now implemented.
Cheers!
2 ways.
1. Search the Libraries for the Schematic Symbol for the part in the PCB Footprint that you require and replace the old symbol in the schematic with the new one. This keeps all the BoM information correct for the new part;
2. Search for the PCB Footprint you require and then use the Footprint Manager to assign that to the symbol in the schematic. Then manually update the supplier and manufacturer part attributes to make the BoM information correct for the new part;
Then do **Update PCB...**
@rickcau,
And that is exactly what my reply describes.
If you change the physical size of a part then you have to use a different footprint for it on the PCB.
If you change a footprint directly in the PCB then when you do **Update PCB...** or **Import changes...** then the change will be overwritten by whatever the footprint is that is assigned to the schematic symbol.
If you just change the footprint assigned to the symbol in the schematic without updating the supplier and manufacturer part attributes then the BOM will be incorrect as it will call up the original and hence the incorrectly sized part.
To understand this better please read (2.2) and (2.3) in (2) in:

In PCB design it is important that the sizes of components and therefore their PCB Footprints are decided **before** PCB layout is started.
If this is not done, then the task of pcb layout is made much more complicated and error prone because changing Footprints will inevitably require rerouting tracks connected to them and almost certainly will require moving and hence rerouting adjacent tracks and Footprints.
